Unemployed Doesn’t Mean Down and Out
Unemployed doesn’t mean down and out
A reporter called me from one of the major news houses. She was looking for “epic fail” stories like the one the NY Times wrote about on a former executive who had sent out hundreds of resumes and got no response and was now working at Walmart. The whole story made me furious! Why didn’t this guy get help to improve his resume and learn more effective ways to job hunt? If you send out 200 resumes and no calls – there is a BIG problem in HOW you put together your resume.
When the reporter asked me if I’d if I could connect her with a client who took a major pay cut I said, “My clients work with me so they don’t take pay cuts when they land their new job” I also took her to task over the entire storyline. “Why are you writing about the “big loser” instead of inspiring the 15 million unemployed Americans with some success stories?” I said. “Why not outline what works, instead of digging in the gutter for downer stories that only make people more depressed? I’ve had three clients in the last ten days that got new jobs – two got BIG promotions with significant raises, and one changed careers and landed a excellent opportunity with major career growth options and a decent salary.” She wasn’t interested in success – only failure. Made me wonder “Is the media really that far removed from the public’s desired information?”
Bottomline – you have to help yourself…and that is why I am working so hard to help you land a good job.
